Why it's better to buy directly from the producer
The price of extra virgin olive oil in supermarkets is often misleading. Industrial brands often sell blends of oils from different origins (including non-EU countries), bottled in Italy. An agricultural producer like us sells only their own oil, traceable from field to bottle.

A truth many don't want to hear: an organic monovarietal Italian extra virgin olive oil cannot cost less than 12-15 euros per liter, with the best reaching 25-35 euros per liter.
Quick calculation: to make 1 liter of oil requires about 6-8 kg of olives. Olives hand-picked in Sannio cost the producer between 0.80 and 1.20 €/kg. Just the raw material is 5-9 euros. Add milling, bottle, label, cork, VAT, organic certification, labor… the calculation checks out.
An extra virgin olive oil in supermarkets at 4-6 €/liter is mathematically impossible to be a true organic Italian extra virgin olive oil. It's an industrial blend, often mixed with oils from Tunisia, Spain, and Greece.
How to store it and its shelf life
Extra virgin olive oil has three enemies: light, air, and heat.
- Store in dark bottles (green or amber) or metal cans
- Away from direct sunlight — better in a pantry than on the kitchen counter
- Always seal tightly after use; oxygen is the main aging factor
- Ideal temperature: 14-18°C. Not in the fridge (it crystallizes).
A sealed bottle retains its properties for 18-24 months from bottling. Once opened, consume within 3-4 months to enjoy it at its best.
